Subject: Heads Up: SS12 lint2 still core dumps occasionally.

Hi Gatelings,

Despite the fix for 6752790 'lint2 eats a lot of memory while doing cross-module
checks' (see http://opensolaris.org/os/community/on/flag-days/pages/2008101301)
lint2 will occasionally core dump. This behaviour is worse if lint2 is run with
libumem (see 6763773 for details). As ON expects lint clean integrations we
suggest the following if you encounter problems:

1. Remove the core file, check that /tmp isn't full and repeat the lint process.
Usually this should resolve the problem (unless you're using libumem).
2. Discuss with your CRT advocate how you're checking for lint cleanliness. You
maybe invoking lint on a larger set of files than necessary.
3. Don't use libumem when running lint.
4. Find a build machine with more swap.

Note that we've only seen this problem on x86. If you hear of problems where
lint2 core dumps on SPARC please let me know.

Please contact gk at onnv dot eng dot sun dot com if you have any questions.

Thanks

Nick
